Carpineto Romano: terra di sapori, cultura e tradizioni

Carpineto Romano: land of flavors, culture, and traditions

Carpineto Romano is much more than a village perched among the Lepini Mountains.
It is a land of authentic flavors, deep history, vibrant traditions, and a strong identity.

It is the town of chestnuts, harvested from the chestnut groves that turn golden and fiery in autumn.
It is the town of olives, producing an oil with an intense aroma and a sincere taste.
It is the town of ciambelle — sweet, fragrant ring-shaped pastries — still made today following ancient recipes passed down through generations.

But Carpineto is also the town of “Jo Papa Nostro,” Pope Leo XIII, born here in 1810 and warmly remembered by the entire community. His bond with the town remains alive in the streets, the stories, and the museum dedicated to him, which preserves his memory and legacy.

Walking through the historic center, among stone alleys and breathtaking views, you will find numerous churches — true treasures of art and popular devotion that tell centuries of local history.

And then there is the beating heart of Carpineto’s summer: the Pallio della Carriera.
A unique historical reenactment that transports Carpineto back to the 17th century with flag wavers, costumed parades, folk games, and horse races. An event that unites past and present, involving the entire community in a festive atmosphere.

At our B&B, we don’t just offer hospitality — we offer the chance to experience Carpineto from within, like a local, surrounded by flavors, stories, and traditions that still speak to the heart.

Richard McClintock, a Latin scholar from Hampden-Sydney College, is credited with discovering the source behind the ubiquitous filler text. In seeing a sample of lorem ipsum, his interest was piqued by consectetur—a genuine, albeit rare, Latin word. Consulting a Latin dictionary led McClintock to a passage from De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum (“On the Extremes of Good and Evil”), a first-century B.C. text from the Roman philosopher Cicero.

It’s difficult to find examples of lorem ipsum in use before Letraset made it popular as a dummy text in the 1960s, although McClintock says he remembers coming across the lorem ipsum passage in a book of old metal type samples. So far he hasn’t relocated where he once saw the passage, but the popularity of Cicero in the 15th century supports the theory that the filler text has been used for centuries.

And anyways, as Cecil Adams reasoned, “[Do you really] think graphic arts supply houses were hiring classics scholars in the 1960s?” Perhaps. But it seems reasonable to imagine that there was a version in use far before the age of Letraset.
